With a newfound fascination for the desert, Kevin set the opening battle sequence for FROST: Portrait of a Vampire (then known as A Killing Frost), in the deserts of Afghanistan. After scouting locations with Frost lead actor and real-life pilot Jeff Manzanares, Kevin settled on the Anza Borrego Desert thirty miles out of Brawley, California.

With a genuine military half-track, four horses a cast and crew of nearly forty people, the team had a blast. Despite heat in excess of 105 degrees and going through 50 gallons of water per day, everyone agreed that it was an experience they wouldn't trade for anything.

This location marked the team's first use of a manned crane. DP Matt Steinauer and 1st AC Vince De Meglio often operated from twelve feet off of the ground.
